In Matthew 22:15–22, the Pharisees and Herodians tried to trap Jesus with a question about paying taxes to Caesar. But Jesus answered with perfect wisdom: “Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”
In this sermon, Pay Caesar, Worship God, we consider what Jesus teaches about earthly authority, civic responsibility, and the far greater claim God has upon our lives. Christians may owe honor and obedience to governing authorities, but our worship, ultimate allegiance, and whole selves belong to God alone.
