Matthew 23:37-24:2 | Stones Instead of Wings

As Jesus looks over Jerusalem, He laments the people who repeatedly rejected God’s messengers and refused to come under His gracious protection. Their rejection would have devastating consequences. The magnificent temple they trusted in would soon be left desolate—not one stone would be left upon another.

In Matthew 23:37–24:2, Pastor Todd Fletcher examines Jesus’ sorrow over Jerusalem, the seriousness of rejecting God’s gracious call, and the coming judgment symbolized by the destruction of the temple. What appeared permanent and glorious to man could not stand when the people rejected the One to whom the temple itself pointed.

This passage reminds us that religious privilege, impressive institutions, and outward devotion can never substitute for receiving Christ. The question is not whether we admire the stones, but whether we have come beneath the wings of the Savior.
