Matthew 22:34-40 | The Weight of Love

In Matthew 22:34–40, a lawyer tests Jesus by asking which commandment is greatest. Christ’s answer brings the whole duty of man into focus: love God with all your heart, soul, and mind, and love your neighbor as yourself.

In this sermon, Pastor Todd Fletcher explains why love is not merely one Christian virtue among many but the weight upon which the whole Law and Prophets hang. True obedience begins with wholehearted love for God and necessarily expresses itself in sacrificial love for others. Yet these commands also expose the poverty of our love and point us to Christ, who loved the Father perfectly and gave Himself for His people.
